Laser Hair Removal  F.a.q.

Does it hurt?

A diode laser will work more effectively with less patient discomfort with integrated instant cooling. You may experience a small but manageable sensation that we describe as a “pinch” or a “zap” when we pulse the laser.

Some clients and certain areas may be more sensitive than others, but without instant cooling, the treatment is set to be virtually painless compared to the other regular IPL Laser hair removal machines.

NOTE:  We know that some of the earlier aesthetic lasers delivered painful pulses.  If you have been treated with one of these devices and now fear this treatment, please give us the opportunity to show you how much more comfortable our state-of-the-art technology can be.

Will I see results right away?

Hair grows in repeating cycles, and only in the actively growing phase does the hair contain enough pigment to absorb sufficient energy to disable the hair follicle.  When hair is in the dormant phase, it has little or no pigment, and it cannot absorb the laser light.  When you come in for your treatment, we disable all of the hair follicles with actively growing hair in the treatment area.  A few weeks later, some of your dormant hairs will have moved into the actively growing stage, and you will come in again for another treatment to disable those.

Most of our clients have told us that they can see a 30% of hair reduction after the first treatment. Each person will vary depending on how many treatments are needed for them. The average treatment times are between 4 - 8 sessions every 4-6 weeks. After all your sessions are done.  If there are still any remaining hairs you may opt to come back once every few years for any extra hair growth that is left over.

Immediately after the treatment, your hair will look about the same. Over the next 7–30 days, the damaged hair follicles will expel the last remnants of the weakened hair. Thus, you will see hairless skin in a few weeks.

How long does each treatment take?

Depending on the area that is being treated, normally each area will take approximately 10 - 30 minutes.

Can I wax in between treatments?

It is recommended that you do not wax or pluck in between treatments. However, you may still shave.

Is laser hair removal safe for the face?

Yes, laser hair removal is generally safe for the face because it does not damage skin cells. Many of our patients have successfully got rid of embarrassing hair on the chin and upper lip, side burns, or neck area.

Are there any side effects?

Laser hair removal normally does not produce any side effects. However, some patients experience minor swelling, redness and light burning sensation immediately after treatment. These side effects can be alleviated by using ice packs and over-the-counter pain medications, Aloe vera gel or Polysporin

What are the possible complications of laser hair removal?

In very rare cases, laser energy can cause burns similar to a bad sunburn, blisters and scabs. Other possible complications include infection and changes in skin color (lighter or darker patches of skin). However, the vast majority of laser hair removal patients experience no complications and are highly satisfied with their results.

Who should not get laser hair removal?

People suffering from serious skin conditions, such as psoriasis or dermatitis, are usually not candidates for laser hair removal. In addition, pregnant women and people who have a pacemaker should not pursue this procedure. Individuals who take certain medications, such as Accutane and Retin-A, are also not candidates.
